TBA Theatre is committed to providing a fun and safe environment where young artists learn creative expression alongside professional actors, designers, and technicians. With over 80 years of combined experience in youth arts education, our staff are the leaders in Performing Arts Education here in Anchorage. Led by Artistic Director Shane Mitchell, TBA staffers have more experience, more education and more fun! Under their mentorship students will be encouraged to explore the power theatre has to communicate ideas, inspire the imagination and bring people together. Actors Academy: July 7 - August 2 Monday - Friday ♦ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM ♦ $395.00

With classes for students aged 8 - 18, this is a comprehensive program designed to help young people develop theatre skills in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Each Academy member will receive training in specialized areas of the performing arts including Acting, Stage Combat, Voice and Dance. Academy actors will each be cast in a show with two fully staged public performances at APU Grant Hall.
Advanced Theatre Academy: June 30 - July 25 Monday - Friday ♦ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM ♦ $395.00
Performances are July 23, 24 & 25
For the experienced and serious actor, minimum age 12 years. Advanced Academy students will train in an intensive performance program that allows them to find their artistic voices and develop their creative talents to their fullest potential. Each student will be cast in a show with two fully staged public performances at APU Grant Hall. Prerequisites must be met and approved by the education committee to enroll. Technical Theatre Academy: June 30 - August 2 Monday - Friday ♦ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM ♦ $395.00
Mature students aged 14 - 18, our Academy Technicians will have the opportunity to train and work alongside theatre professionals from around the country in every area of technical theatre. This elite team will also be given the responsibility of running lights, sound and technical aspects for Advanced Academy and Actors Academy productions under the guidance of a professional Stage Manager.

Academy Intensive - Comedy Improv: June 22 - June 26 Monday - Friday ♦ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM ♦ $135.00
Comic Maestro Wayne Mitchell and guest artists will lead students in techniques made popular on such shows as Whose Line is it Anyway? This exciting week culminates in the Friday Night Showcase, a special performance onstage to show off your skills.
Academy Intensive - Musical Theatre Magic: August 3 - August 7 Monday - Friday ♦ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM ♦ $135.00
It's back! Our extremely popular Musical Theatre Intensive, once again directed by Anchorage's most critically acclaimed musical theatre director - Erin Dagon Mitchell. A full week of singing, dancing and acting! Culminating in the Friday Night Showcase, a special performance onstage to show off your skills. This intensive will meet at Grant Hall.

Our popular programming for ages 5-adult returns! Each class will have five Saturday sessions ending on May 9th. Theatre Store has something for everyone!

IMAGINATION STATION ~ Bringing the Story to Life
Instructor: Rebecca Gamache
Using the voice, body and imagination, you will create animals, people, and objects while learning the basics of the world of theatre. Session concludes with a brief demonstration for family and friends.

ACTOR'S ARENA ~ When the Fat Lady Sings
Instructor: Justin Birchell
What is this stuff called opera? Who is this famous "fat lady"? Why is it all in a foreign language? And for heaven's sake WHY are they always singing? A whirlwind-introduction to all facets of opera, from opera history to how a modern opera is produced. This overview of opera is intended to equip the student with knowledge that will allow him/her to better appreciate and enjoy their encounters with opera in all its many incarnations.

COMEDY CLUB ~ Excursions of Long Form Improv

Maybe you've heard of Improv...watched Whose Line is it Anyway or seen a Scared Scriptless show...but have you ever heard of LONG-FORM? Come and explore this advanced and little-known genre of improvisational theatre, in which performers create 30-minute skits from a single suggestion!

Time: 12:00 pm - 12:55 pm
Prerequisites: Previous improv experience (any class or workshop) is required for those under the age of 15.

Hop into Spring with Frog & Toad!
Arnold Lobel's well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage! Follow the cheerful Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons as they plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding and learn important life lessons about friendship along the way. This Broadway musical romp is sure to be a delight for the whole family!

Friends of TBA Theatre, the Best Non-Profit Organization in Alaska with the plaque from the ADN to prove it, may now make donations via the Alaska Permanent Fund.
If you apply for your PFD online between January 1st and March 31st, 2009, you'll be given the option to view a list of eligible Alaskan non-profits. This comes up after you submit the basic PFD application information. TBA Theatre is listed in the Third Judicial District. Just select the organizations you wish to contribute to and enter the amounts you wish to give - anything from $25 up to your full dividend amount. Your gifts will be deducted from your PFD payment and passed on in full to the non-profits you support.
We'd love it if you choose for the PFD to let us know who you are so that we may thank you in proper TBA Theatre fashion!
