TBA stands for "training better artists," and to meet our training goal, we offer classes for all ages. Our current offerings are below, separated by age groups, starting with the youngest to Adult classes.

Classes for Grades 1-3

Music Creation

Tuesdays

Sept 22 - Oct 13

Tuition: $60

In this class, students will learn basic elements and techniques of music to compose songs of their own! They will explore concepts of rhythm, melody, and harmony as they create music from the environment around them. A local favorite, teacher Seth Eggleston is a graduate of Willamette University and currently serves as TBA Theatre’s Associate Director of Music.

Stage Movement Studio

Tuition: $60

Time to get moving, TBA! Join theatre artist Alexis Jade Colón for some lively and limber lessons in the Stage Movement Studio. You’ll learn how to create memorable characters using imaginative embodiments, dance, and even Comedia dell’Arte. As an actor, your body is one of your best storytelling tools, so find a little wiggle room and join the fun! Alexis is a writer/actress/director located in Cincinnati and has been a guest artist for TBA’s Summer Performing Arts Academy where she’s taught a variety of classes and directed Of Plastic Things and Butterfly Wings and Oink!

Story Theatre: The Anansi Tales

Tuition: $60

Listening to and creating folk tales based on a book gives students the opportunity to express themselves, show emotion, and exhibit empathy for characters. This class creates experiences in re-enacting a story in groups using simple MASK designs created in class to ‘SHOW’ various emotions. A professional actor, teaching artist, and director, Patty Carreras has a Masters in Theatre and Film with an emphasis on directing from SUNY Buffalo. As a Theatre Teaching Artist with the Lincoln Institute and Kennedy Center, Patty has been seen in thousands of classrooms across the USA where she also provides Mime and Clown performances.

Improvisational Theatre

An entertaining and interactive look at the fundamentals of improv with Scared Scriptless performer and Improv instructor Amy Kropp. Amy will lead students in lively discussions, fun exercises and online-appropriate games that will give you a solid understanding of the basics and beyond. Whether you’re looking for improv performance tips and tricks or just want to impress your friends, we’ve got you covered! All levels of improv experience are welcome including beginners.

Playwriting: Writing the Very Short Play

Led by internationally celebrated and renowned playwright P. Shane Mitchell students will study the structure and format of the short play while developing creative writing skills. Students will have weekly writing prompts and the opportunity to have their work presented in class.

Playwriting: The Art of the Short Form

Intermediate Special Effects Make-up

Tuition: $60

Perfect your Halloween look as we continue to work with liquid latex and other mediums to create zombies, ghouls, and other monstrous looks. This class is for students from our previous make-up class or those with some theatrical make-up experience with instructor approval. Primarily known as a director and actress, instructor Erin Dagon Mitchell studied at UAA and WSU and has worked as a make-up artist for film and stage.

A basic theatrical make-up kit and liquid latex will be required for class. Email erin.mitchell@tbatheatre.org for supply list and pre-approval.

TBA Book Club: Murder Mysteries

TBA's version of Book Club is like no book club you've ever been to before. Critically acclaimed theatre artist, Wayne Mitchell will take you through a thriller a week, just in time for Halloween. This is a great way to explore and discuss scripts with other artists.

Shakespeare Online

Thursdays

Sept 24 - Oct 15

Tuition: $60

Brush up your Shakespeare with actor and Shakespeare enthusiast Kevin Keith. Kevin has appeared with TBA as George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life as well as our Shakespearean productions of The Merry Wives of Windsor and Julius Caesar. All skill levels are welcome - those intimidated about performing Shakespeare are particularly encouraged. Everyone will work on at least one monologue and one scene. The primary goal of the workshop is to simply give everyone a chance to perform some Shakespeare, but a secondary goal will be to consider how to make on-line performances effective.
