TBA Theatre is committed to providing a fun and safe environment where young artists learn creative expression alongside professional actors, designers, and technicians. With over 90 years of combined experience in youth arts education, our staff are the leaders in performing arts education here in Anchorage.

 

Led by Associate Artistic Director Erin Mitchell, TBA staffers have more experience, more education and more fun! Under their mentorship students will be encouraged to explore the power theatre has to communicate ideas, inspire the imagination and bring people together. Actors Academy

Dates, Times & Ages

July 1 - July 28 / Mon-Fri / 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Ages 8-18

Description

This is a comprehensive program designed to help young people develop theatre skills in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Each Actors Academy member will receive training in specialized areas of the performing arts including: acting, stage combat, voice, and dance. All participants will each be cast in a show with fully staged public performances.

Advanced Actors Academy

Ages 13-18

Description

For the experienced and serious actor, Advanced Academy students will train in an intensive performance program that allows them to find their artistic voices and develop their creative talents to their fullest potential. Each student will be cast in a show with fully staged public performances. All registrations must be approved by our education committee before they are fully confirmed.

Behind the Scenes Technical Theatre Academy

June 24 - July 28 / Mon-Fri / 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Ages 13-18

Description

For ages 13-18, academy technicians have the opportunity to train and work alongside theatre professionals from around the country in every area of technical theatre. This elite team will also be given the responsibility of running lights, sound and technical aspects for Advanced Academy and Actors Academy productions under the guidance of a professional Stage Manager.

ADD ON - Academy Early Arrival

Description 

Need a place for your student to go when you have to be to work? TBA is now offering early arrival. Students will be supervised as they do a quiet activity. Bringing books or another quiet activity is encouraged.

Early arrival starts at 8am each day. No drop offs permitted before 7:45am.

 

Must be enrolled in Actors Academy or Advanced Academy to attend.

Ages 8-18

Description 

Students registered in Play Production will experience some of the greatest workshops that we can't offer during the regular day. Previous workshops have included Balloon Twisting, Creating Sock Puppets, Specialized Painting, and even Playwrighting. Student have a break at 3:30 and then meet back for a snack and a workshop, keeping them creatively occupied until 5pm.

 

Program starts on a Wednesday, then meets Monday - Friday, until Wednesday, July 22nd. Please note that Play Production ends two days before Actors Academy finishes due to the performance schedule.

 

Must be enrolled in Actors Academy or Advanced Academy to attend.

Academy Intensive: Rising Star

Ages 7-12

Description

Help your child grow in confidence and earn about acting in this fun and exciting new program! This beginner's course will take these rising stars on a journey through all aspects of acting, including voice, movement, improv, theatre games, auditioning and other special skills. This class is the perfect intro to our Actor's Academy program. Includes one evening showcase at the end of the intensive.

Academy Intensive: Comedy Improv

Description

Learn all the joys of acting without a script! This intensive will teach the students a wide range of comedy improv games, such as those featured on the hit show "Who's Line is it Anyway?". Revamped specifically for teens, this intensive is sure to be a run-around, laugh-a-minute good time.  Includes one showcases at the end of the intensive.

It's back! Our extremely popular Musical Theatre Intensive, once again directed by Anchorage's most critically acclaimed musical theatre director - Erin Dagon Mitchell. Academy hours are 9:30-3:30 and registration will begin at 9am on Monday.

 

UAA Permit Parking is enforced Monday – Friday. During registration parking will not be enforced from 8:45am – 9:45 am. Parking will not be enforced this summer during pick up and drop off times.  Please do not block or park in loading zones, fire lanes, etc. or you may be ticketed by Parking Services.

 

If you are picking up a student outside of regular academy hours you will need to obtain a free temporary permit (15 minutes) at the pay-n-park machines.

 

Each student should prepare a 1-2 minute audition piece for the first day of Academy. This can be a monologue from a play, a short excerpt from a favorite book, or even a poem. Students will be cast in one of four productions with evening and weekend performances.

 

Students should bring a packed lunch each day, labeled with their name. There are vending machines on campus but TBA can not provide change and is not responsible for Vending Machine problems or refunds.

 

There is Academy on Friday, July 3rd and Monday July 6th.
